Welcome Back to School!
Welcome back to school, and welcome to the PHS library! I hope all of you read plenty of great books this summer. I did my fair share of reading when I wasn't canoeing on the Russian River or working or going to yoga class or waiting in line for Splash Mountain, and I have some really good books to recommend. Two of my favorites included The Illustrated Mum by Jacqueline Wilson, and The Higher Power of Lucky by Susan Patron.

The Higher Power of Lucky recently won the Newbery Medal and most deservingly so, I must say. It's a short novel at 133 pages, and best for grades 4 through 8. It's a pretty fast read, but unique and wonderful. Come borrow it! (Grown-ups, you'd like this one, too.)
The Illustrated Mum was sitting next to my bed for months, but I hadn't picked it up. I'm glad I finally did. I would recommend this book for middle schoolers on up. It's an import from England, where it has won many prestigious awards. It's not always an easy book to read since it deals with a family's struggle with mental illness, but it is ultimately uplifting and very engrossing.
The return of the fall PHS Book Fair! Mark your calendars for Thursday, November 15th. PHS will hold it's annual Book Fair at Books Inc. in Laurel Village that evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Start making your shopping lists.
