Birthday Books
Here’s a list of titles I’ve selected for the Birthday Book Program. I’ve tried to categorize them by grade. This is just a list of suggestions. Please feel free to choose any book in which you or your child is interested. (Just check with me first so we can avoid doubles.) Books Inc. is a great resource for selecting books as well.
Grades K-1- 2- 3
Leon and Bob – Simon James
Charlie and Lola - I’ve Won. No I’ve Won , No I’ve Won – Lauren Child
Charlie and Lola: Whoops But it Wasn’t Me - Lauren Child
Froggy Books - Jonathan London
Biggest, Strongest, Fastest, - Steve Jenkins
Surprising Sharks – Davies
The American Girl Series (A number of the girls have asked about these.)
Grades 4-5-6
My Parents Are Divorced, My Elbows Have Nicknames, and Other Facts about Me – Bill Cochran
Horrible Histories Collections – Terry Deary and Martin Brown (These were wildly popular at my old school. They are a lot of fun and also offer a ton of historical information. Often irreverent and totally gross, they are a huge hit among third and fourth grade boys…naturally.)
The Groovy Greeks and The Rotten Romans
The Vicious Vikings
The Awful Egyptians
The Smashin’ Saxons and Stormin’ Normans
Grades 6-7-8
River of Words – The Story of William Carlos Williams – Jen Bryant
Whaam! The Art and Life of Roy Lichtenstein – Susan Goldman Rubin
Diego: Bigger Than Life – Carmen T. Bernier Grand
Monkey Town: The Summer of the Scopes Trial – Kidd
Just Listen– Sarah Dessen
Along for the Ride – Sarah Dessen
