School Libraries in the Local News

The San Jose Journal had a great article about the importance of school libraries and the ways in which students benefit from having strong library services. A lot of what it reports applies to California Public Schools but nevertheless, the message is an important one. Unfortunately, with this information also comes the sad reality that school libraries are becoming a unique and rare thing.

We are starting the process of composing a collection policy at the PHSL and it will include both a long and short term plan. At a time when public schools are losing library resources rapidly with no promise of them returning in sight, I feel the need to reflect and take stock of what we have and how fortunate our students are to have a beautiful school library. As we consider improvements, we'll be striving to utilize it in the most efficient and appropriate ways.
