2010 Book Awards-The Big Ones

A little late with this, but in light of the Oscar nominations announced this morning I thought I'd post about the books that won our version of the Oscars this year. The Caldecott and Newbery Medals are the most prestigious of the awards given in the chilldren's book industry.

And the Caldecott goes to....

The Lion and the Mouse by Brian Pinkney

And this year's Newbery Medal is...

When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead (Here's a great review at SLJ)

As you would expect, they are both amazing and we have both titles in the library. Come check them out!

Visit the ALA website to find out more about the various medals and awards granted every year to outstanding children's books.

Do You Have a Book to Recommend? Are You Looking for Book Suggestions?

Post your book review here! Read reviews and recommendations from your classmates!

Here's how to do it:
(And yes, this is where you post reviews for Mike's class, too.)

To post your own recommendation, scroll down to the bottom where it says Post a Comment. Fill in the blank for name (FIRST NAME ONLY PLEASE!) Then, in the Comment box, type the body of your recommendation and be sure to include the following things in your recommendation:

1) Your first name (Even though you typed it in the little box, include it in the body of your recommendation, either at the beginning or at the end.)

2) Your grade level if you're a student, or the word Parent if you're a parent, or PHS Staff/Faculty if you work at PHS.

3) The title of the book

3) The author's last name or full name

I will read your recommendation and decide if it will be posted on this site. I might make necessary spelling changes or other technical fixes as needed.

Eventually, I would like to create separate categories for adult recommendations, middle school recommendations, lower school, etc. But for now, let's just share what we're reading!
