Curriculum Spotlight: Spanish 5-23-2008

Hands on “en Español
Hello dear community!
I thought that since it is almost the end of the year and as a teacher I start to think about the entire year and reflect on what the students in the different levels have achieved at PHS.
I have a big spectrum of classes so I will go ahead and start with the little ones. Third grade is working very well on questions and answers about family, body parts, etc. As a group we decided to make something to remember and to have forever so each and every students is making “libro de español”, a full color artistic version of all the things we learned the first year of Spanish. Parents will have the opportunity to see and keep this book at the end of the year.
The second year of Spanish at PHS in 4th grade we visited a “taqueria” and students had the chance to use the language in full expression when ordering their meal. It was hard and intimidating to do it but the whole class did a wonderful job and every single student got the order that they really wanted and some of them even ordered dessert “churros”. Great and fun job!
The 7th graders finished writing individuals stories, created a story fully in Spanish and presented it as a book. Currently they are working on writing a song as a final project. Very creative and fun!
The 8th graders finished the cooking project and the book project. Both were very sophisticated for their young age, showing off their maturity. Nicely done!
As for me… the pregnant teacher. I’m very excited, exhausted and happy all at the same time. And I want to use this wonderful opportunity to thank the PHS community for all the wonderful words and gesture since I announced my future motherhood. I appreciate each one of you. Thanks again.
