From the after-school director 9-09-05
I would like to wish you all a warm welcome back to school! After-school is getting into a routine this week with activities starting in the theatre for the younger kids and academic time for older kids. As a reminder, academic time is required for third through eighth graders in after-school Monday–Thursday from 4:00 p.m.–4:30 p.m. If students have all of their homework completed, they can read a book or use the Ultrakey typing program to practice typing skills. Please encourage your child to bring a book with them to school every day for when homework is completed.
I would also like to introduce everyone to our newest staff members, Jaiden Williams and Spencer Johnson. Jaiden will be working with the K–3 downstairs program every day. Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, Jaiden is currently a pre-med student at San Francisco State. In her spare time she takes ballet lessons at the Academy of Ballet, reads, and does a lot of homework! Jaiden has worked at Back On Track Tutoring and as an after-school teacher at YMCA/Sheridan Elementary School in San Francisco. Spencer will be working with the fourth through eighth graders in after-school, as well as being the yard supervisor during the day. Spencer is majoring in social activism and change at New College. He is interested in music and is currently working on completing an album. Spencer has worked as a tutor and after-school teacher with Americorps and at Marina Middle School in San Francisco. Jaiden and Spencer are both very excited to be a part of the PHS community, so please stop by and introduce yourself when you come to pick up your kids.
I would like to remind everyone how important it is to get into the habit of signing your kids out on BOTH the computer and the clipboards. If you need training or a refresher course on how to sign your children out, please let me know.
Enrichment classes begin next Monday. If you are still interested in signing up, some classes still have availability. Starting Friday, September 16, I will be taking a group of five middle schoolers down to JK Park for an hour-long tennis lesson. The lessons will be first-come first-served, so please contact me at extension 130 ASAP to reserve a spot for next Friday.
As always, if you have any questions about after-school or enrichment, do not hesitate to contact me at extension 130. I look forward to getting to know all of the new students and reconnecting with returning ones.
