AFKS

Dear PHS Families, Friends, Teachers and Staff,
It was another roaring successful and fun filled Auction night! With the Theater wrapped in glorious red velvet and perfumed by gardenias, it set the stage for celebration!
An outrageous 1920's Auction night filled with inspirational dance by the Isadora Duncan Dance company, fueled by the rock and roll vibe of the 6th Grade Band "Swift" and elevated by the glorious voices of the a cappella middle school group, "The Wash" !
Thank you to all our parents, friends, families, teachers and staff for coming out to celebrate and support our school. We raised over $100K! We couldn't have done it without our amazing roster of committee chairs, hardworking parent volunteers, teachers and staff.
We would love to hear your comments and suggestions for next year's Auction. Check out the AFKS Survey by clicking here. It has been a pleasure and privilege to work with such a dedicated Auction Committee. I look forward to supporting and assisting the new Auction Chair in every way that I can.
With heartfelt gratitude and good cheer,
Grace Angel

AFKS - TOP TEN!

HOW YOU CAN MAKE
THIS YEAR’S ART FOR KIDS’ SAKE AUCTION:
ARTRAGEOUS
THE BEST EVER!!
For those of you who have been in the school the past four years have seen PHS transformed. It’s that time of year once again: Time for Art For Kids’ Sake. Although the auction catalogue is not out yet, do preview the items on the website to get an idea of what’s being offered:
http://www.presidiohill.org/news/archives/art_for_kids_sake/auction_items/
Like last year, I put together a list of a few things that you can be thinking about before you arrive at the auction to get into the mood of the proceedings. Of course, it’s always good to think ahead, so here are a few “thinks” to think about, or “Brian’s Top Ten Reasons Why Art For Kids’ Sake “ARTRageous” will be the best event, ever:
10. Who you gonna call? Well, there’s Grandma, Uncle Ned, or the High School kid down the street who used to eat paste in third grade (He’s cool now): It’s time to get a sitter.
9. ‘Cause it’s good for you. Hanging out and schmoozing with different parents, alums, and friends of the school may not make you healthy, wealthy, and strong like Wonder Bread used to claim, but it may show you that we are in one of the greatest school communities around. That’s a good thing, right?
8. Come nattily dressed. After all it is theme is ArtRageous. Think Gatsby, the Cotton Club, and anything that’s out of the box.
7. You Can Dance. You Can Dance. You Can Dance. For Inspiration. Because once again, we’ll have one of the hottest bands on the planet (thanks to Rebeca Mauleon).
6. Everybody is welcome (and a good time will be had by all). The PHS auction is a one-of-a-kind inclusive event, where all are invited and no one will be turned away.
5. The early bird gets the trip to Tahoe. Remember to RSVP ahead of time with your credit card information to facilitate a seamless effortless entrance and exit.
4. Take a look at me now. Take a look at the Art For Kids’ Sake website to see what you want to score: http://www.presidiohill.org/afks.
3. Remember the Sears Wishbook? If not, the Art For Kids’ Sake catalogue will come close. Preview the items that you want to bid on and get ready to buy to support the school.
2. Something to Chew On. Think about a teacher you love and supporting him or her; think about all of the cool field trips that you drive kids on and how getting into our big classroom, San Francisco, is a large part of what we do at PHS; and also think about those families who are at the school who wouldn’t be here if we didn’t give the level of financial assistance that we give.
1. The number one thing that you can do to make this Art For Kids’ Sake Auction the best ever is: Have more fun than you can possibly stand! After all, it’s all about having a great time with other adults and supporting the school.
We’ll see you at the Presidio Hill School Auction, Art For Kids’ Sake on Saturday, March 29th from 6:30 until 10:30 PM!!

Save the Date: Art for Kids' Sake 2008

Art for Kids Sake: What is it?

What is it? FundRaiser? FriendRaiser? FunRaiser?
Art for Kids Sake Auction is our 4th Annual Fundraiser for PHS showcasing Artworks by local & internationally known artists and featuring our PHS Student’s artwork. We debuted in 2005 to create an event that demonstrated our commitment to the arts, showcased our unique school, and brought together our community. Last year’s event was a rip roaring success and a heck of a lot of fun too! This year we’re steppin’ out to the ArtRageous 1920’s.
What Do I need to Do?
Donate/Solicit: Each family is asked to donate or solicit at least 2 items for the Auction (with $100 minimum total value)
Volunteer: Your help is greatly appreciated & needed. Find your niche and what you enjoy doing. Volunteering is a great way to meet & work with old and new friends. Sign Up sheets are in the lobby.
Spread the Word: Tell your friends and neighbors about our must see Art Event. What Items should I Get?
AFKS is all about Art but its also more than just ART.
Here are some ideas:
• Art: Photographs, paintings, jewelry, ceramics, sculpture, etc.
• Art Experiences: Like a Private walk thru MOMA, Private tour with Artist, Chef, Performer, Private Concert, etc.
• Gift Certificates for dinner, lunches & brunches
• Hotels, Bed & Breakfast Inns, Vacation homes, Getaways
• Limousine, airplane, train, and hot air balloon rides
• Tours and trips: Skiing, whale watching, sailing, oceanic expeditions, etc.
• Gift Certificates for Clothing stores, flowers, toy stores, housewares, etc.
• Wine, Gourmet Baskets, Chocolates, Truffles
• Group Dinners, Activities. Try putting things together in your neighborhood like a lunch and movie on Sacramento Street, Museum Tour at MOMA ending with Spa at Bliss, Dinner and Shopping on Union Street
Who should I ask? (Donor forms, Solicitation letters available at PHS lobby)
Start with your favorite local businesses. When you’re out dining, shopping, taking class, ask merchants if they can donate. When you’re visiting your hair stylist, dentist, Auto Garage, etc. ask if they would like to run an ad in the Auction Catalogue.
How do I ask?
Introduce yourself as a Parent at PHS. Keep it short and sweet. Ask if they can support the Auction by donating (Certificate, Services, etc.). Explain that Donors get premium placements in our Auction Catalogue and are bid on by over 200 Attendees. Add that their support will help us reach our goal of increasing our Financial Assistance Program by 30%. Donations are Tax Deductible.
Where do I take Completed Donor forms and Donated Auction items?
Please bring them to the Auction Drop off box at the Art for Kids Sake Auction Table in PHS lobby. For larger and fragile items, please leave them with Martin or Namrata. If you have questions or suggestions, please contact Grace Angel 415 994 8009(cell) email: grace.e.angel@comcast.net or Namrata at PHS ext 106.

Art for Kids' Sake: Parking

Hello, Everyone:
The excitement is building in anticipation of ART FOR KIDS' SAKE this weekend (Saturday, March 31st from 6:30 until 10 PM).
I know it goes without saying, but we are a little school nestled into a fairly quiet, residential neighborhood. Please be respectful of the neighbors as we enter and exit the auction.
In anticipation of a bit larger than usual crowds at the school on a weekend evening, we have reserved spaces at the CPMC (California Pacific Medical Center) Garage on Cherry Street, which is just one block from the school.
You can download a parking flyer by clicking here (or pick one up from Martin Gross at the front desk) before the evening's event and place it on the dashboard of your car. Spaces near the school may be limited and we do want to be mindful of the noise and parking congestion. These garage spaces are first come, first serve and you must exit the CPMC garage by 11 PM.
Other things to remember, if you are parking or driving near the school (not just on Saturday but always), be a good neighbor and:
1 - Do not double park.
2 - Do not jaywalk.
3 - Do not block driveways as you wait in line.
4 - Do not park in the white zone (even for "just a second").
5 - No mid-block u-turns.
1) "Observe the quiet zone (anytime after 6 PM)" - finish all conversations BEFORE leaving the building.
2) Follow the "must fill first" rule - fill up all parking spaces on the block of Maple between Jackson and Washington FIRST before parking on Washington Street. We need to leave as many Washington Street spaces for
residents in the evening hours as possible. If families have physical disabilities that prohibit them from parking on the hill, they should park on the flat and place their blue placards where they can be seen.
Thanks, everyone. I'll see you on Saturday in your dancing shoes.
Namasté,
Brian
