From the Student Council 12-14-2007

The student council is off to a great year. As many of you know we have already held a dance and we are now in the process of putting together a second one. The money that we earn from these dances will be used for another student council project: the yearbook. The yearbook committee is gathering pictures and working to make the best PHS yearbook ever. Student council has also taken up the job of setting up a community service project.
We have decided to go to the SPCA and help by cleaning up and taking care of the facilities. So far it has been an active and fun-filled year. But our best days are yet to come! Once Follies settles down we hope to refocus our efforts and look back to the goals we made at the beginning of the year.

From the student council: 03-02-2007
This year, the students of Presidio Hill School have had an active role in creating rules, community service opportunities, student leadership and fun activities for the middle school students. Last year, the Student Council consisted of six people, but this year, over 35 students participate in our weekly Monday afternoon meetings. We have formed Committees striving to make student life better, including the Peer Counseling Committee, the Microwave Committee, the Dance Committee, the Fundraising Committee and the Service Learning Committee.
In the spirit of Caesar Chavez Day, the Service Learning Committee thought up the idea of a school-wide beach clean-up on April, 1, 2007 at 10:00 AM at Ocean Beach. All grades are welcome. One of the Council’s student advisors, Trevor McNeil, 8th Grade Humanities Teacher, is helping organize this event.
Another step that Student Council took in making student life easier was forming the Peer Counseling Committee. This gives students the opportunity to talk to other students about their problems. Janna Sobel, the Performance teacher, is currently training the members of the Peer Counseling Committee on the correct protocol of counseling.
The Student Council is also raising money for a Spring Fling dance. To help fundraise for this dance, the Dance Committee set up three bake sales, which made a total of almost $300 dollars. They have also organized a fundraiser dance for Friday, March 2nd, and have invited two other schools to join in on the fun.
Student Council strives to help students and the community with the crazy world of the Middle School. We also hope to continue the PHS tradition of middle school students taking school-wide leadership in representing the lower school kids too! Look out for more Student Council sponsored events in the future!
