Promotion Speeches: Fifth Grade
Just before leaving the Lower School, fifth graders at Presidio Hill School are asked to give a speech about their Lower School experience and encouraged to share what they have learned.
Parents, teachers and fellow students serve as the audience for each student's culminating reflection. Weeks of thinking, writing, creating and serving as a sounding board for each other precede the presentation of the speeches themselves.
Through this preparation, and in the delivery of the speech itself, students are encouraged to “learn what they have learned” and to communicate this with the audience that cares most about them.
Involving students in this kind of authentic self-assessment allows them to understand what they are capable of and what they need to do to give their best.
