Service Learning

With a rich tradition of diversity, social activism and personal responsibility, Presidio Hill School values community service learning across all grades.

Students discover the importance of caring for their own classroom and our school community, and also spend time getting to know and giving back to the larger community beyond the walls of Presidio Hill.  They learn about recycling and composting, explore habitats around us, and work in the school gardens. Our close connection with the Presidio National Park provides numerous opportunities for service, at El Polin Spring and other areas. Fourth graders explore aging and make cross-generational connections through our relationship with the Institute on Aging. Fifth graders learn about environmental management and restoration related to native species. Middle School outreach includes habitat restorations with the Presidio Trust and the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, confronting hunger and homelessness with the SF-Marin Food Bank and Faithful Fools Street Ministry, and volunteering at Glide for the morning breakfast service.
