PHS Alum-Led San Francisco Ignite Leadership Youth Program!
PHS 2019 alumni and current Lick-Wilmerding student, Emily Nguyen met with current PHS middle school students to promote a program she organized, called San Francisco Ignite Leadership Youth (SFILY) program.
Emily presented about the program during one of PHS's recent all-middle-school morning meetings and invited all current 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students to attend the virtual camp next summer. The camp will be facilitated by a team of 5-7 high schoolers who have demonstrated leadership through student government, community involvement, advocacy, and mentorship and through her summer camp, middle school students will be able to:
- Work closely with high school leaders and learn about leadership experiences,
- Practice collective leadership and problem solving with other middle schoolers,
- Formulate a leadership action plan for the next school year,
- Connect with a high school mentorship for the upcoming school year.
The goal of SFILY is to encourage and develop building block skills for high school and beyond, such as advocacy, engagement, and leadership–skills Emily developed during her time at PHS.
