Service Learning in Fourth Grade
The fourth grade class visits the Institute on Aging monthly during the school year. The class walks down to the senior center where they play games, draw, sing, and talk with the elders there. Students learn some of the elders' favorite songs like, "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," and "Home on the Range." As one fourth grade student put it, "It's like stepping into the past for a little bit." This service project is a memorable and fun experience for students and the elders they visit.
The Institute on Aging is a wonderful California-based non-profit that is committed to caring for the aging and disabled. Learn more here.
